The Draper Center for Community Partnerships

Welcome to our Website!

Community work and volunteerism are critical to the development of compassion, understanding, knowledge, and sense of social responsibility for Pomona College students. The Draper Center for Communtiy Partnerships strives to foster these ideals through community engagement. Founded in 1993, our office serves as a resource center to provide students with one time or long term volunteer opportunities. The office of Community and Multicultural Programs is dedicated to connecting with the larger Los Angeles and Inland Empire community by making contacts and creating partnerships with organizations who are also positive change makers. It is our endeavor to promote understanding of the global context in which social problems occur by providing opportunities for students to grow outside the classroom. We work to achieve these goals through three programs: educational outreach, community engagement, and community based research and learning.

You can visit our official sister website here: http://www.pomona.edu/ocmp/

The Draper Center for Community Partnerships works closely with the Claremont Colleges Office of the Chaplains to coordinate and plan volunteer opportunities for Claremont Colleges students. To view 5C volunteer service opportunities through the McAlister Center, visit their site at: http://www.cuc.claremont.edu/chaplains/volunteer.shtml

Volunteer Code of Ethics

1. Volunteer in a spirit of humility and with a genuine desire to meet and build relationships.
2. Don't assume anyone's life experience.
3. Be aware of other people's feelings in order to prevent what might be offensive behavior. Be sure to remember this when you are taking pictures, talking to people, etc.
4. Cultivate the habit of active listening and asking questions instead of knowing all the answers.
5. Don't make promises unless you are certain you can fulfill them.
6. Recognize your privilege; be critical and self-reflective of your position within any community as you work.
